Return to Birds of Africa

This gallery features drongos, babblers, bulbuls and thrushes, along with a couple of chats. They are especially beautiful. The best opportunities to photograph small birds were in the enclosed campsites.  It was sometimes frustrating to see wonderful species perched in habitats occupied by lions, leopards, hippos or rhinos. These are all dangerous to humans, so we could not leave our vehicle to photograph birds. Those that we found to photograph in our campsite were usually tolerant of people. That made our approach easier. They were not easily frightened away by our actions.
